Foods That Help Clean Teeth and Nourish Teeth & Gums

There are different opinions on this topic all dentist don't agree on it link at the end of the food section below after the food list. Also like hair color people have a variety of teeth colors. Everyone doesn't  have snow white teeth and its not because their teeth are dirty. For those who don't  have white teeth it is possible for some folks to change their teeth's color to white. There's more on this topic on another page listed in the menu for the ToothWashHouse.

Tofu, Soymilk, Plant milks, Dairy Cheese For non-Vegans plus many other foods can help neutralize food acids. Eating some of these types of foods after you eat a meal can help neutralize acids and help protect your teeth.

Coconut: Coconut oil doesn’t work for everyone, everyone doesn't want to do oil pulling with coconut oil. For them eating raw unsweetened shredded coconut of coconut slices can help whiten teeth. You can chew the shredded coconut or coconut  slices and discard it or eat it. Some folks don't want the saturated fat so they prefer to discard it after chew it for a while. Rinse and floss well after chewing it.

[Based on a 3 Tbsp serving at 110 calories per serving: 10 g of Fat and 9 g of Saturated Fat: For  1/2 teaspoon would have approx 6 calories .013 g of saturated fat for half a teaspoon of unsweetened shredded coconut.]

Popcorn doesn't  work for everyone. But it works for some people to help clean & polish teeth.

Some of the other foods that help clean teeth and gums are: fresh vegetables, apples, pears, popped sorghum is similar to popcorn but without the hulls popcorn sometimes leaves in teeth. I haven't tried it yet, but reviews say it's good. Plus there's many more foods that help clean and nourish teeth and gums. Sprinkling some organic garlic powder on organic popcorn is a great snack because the garlic kills some bacteria, and the popcorn helpd scrub the teeth and massage gums. Be careful of the oily & sweet popcorn and do it in moderation, it can cause tooth damage & encourage bacteria growth. The unsalted oyl free organic popcorn is  good for folks who perfer no oyl or salt. It's great plain or with other non oyl/oil or salty flavor enhancers.

After it's  popped put it in a plastic bag add nutritional yeast,  organic garlic powder and shake it in the bag. It's also fun to added sauteed chopped garlic as well, some folks do water sauteed, or on parchment paper in a warm skillet with flames low & no oil and then put that on the popcorn inside your bag or container and the other ingredients you like. It's  great to add to trail mix and snack bars plus more. Rinse well after eating itm

Try to get the nutritional yeast that's been test for lead with the results of ND or none detected. Also get a non fortified nutritional  yeast, if you're concerned about the harmful analogues formation that occurs when B12 is taken with vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Copper. There's research that shows it's better to take Vitamin B12 alone. There are B complex supplements available from a small number of companies called B minus, because its a B complex w/out B12 and sometimes minus B12 & Folate. Link

Foods That Help Heal

Kelp/ Iodine: It's important to make sure it's in our dietary intake because we don't make it. It's in kelp, some people get their daily requirements from taking a multi vitamin supplement or a solo iodine supplement. A nurse being interviewed on YouTube stated if you use kelp power to get your iodine, take 1/16th of a teaspoon. By the way 1/16 teaspoon = 150 mcg. Which is good to know because 150 mcg is the recommended amount. Be careful about taking high doses of iodine, the Mayo Clinic as well several other medical websites have information about taking high doses of iodine including WebMd.

When it comes to dental health the WebMsmd website has this information: "A serious gum infection (periodontitis). Rinsing the mouth with an iodine solution during non-surgical treatments for gum infections can help reduce the depth of infected gum pockets." I don't think most people are doing rinses with kelp powder, they're probably using a supplement or a prescription solution. Link

Tomatoes because of  the Lycopene is good the lessen gum disease, Lycopene pills don't work, but eating tomatoes does. Be careful everyone can't  handle the acid in tomatoes due to gum disease so for them tomatoes won't help unless they're blended into a smoothie that the drink with a straw so less gets on their teeth and gums.

Ginger kills harmful germs and is a anti-inflammatory as mentioned in other sections of this website.

Kale & Broccoli helps protect and strengthen teeth & gums

Chocolate helps repair tooth enamel. If you have a sensitivity to caffeine and theobromine don't use chocolate there isn't any decaf dark chocolate currently, no  chocolate manufacturer has done it yet. It can leave stains on teeth also, even after weeks of not eating any thing that has cocoa powder in or a piece of chocolate. It's has other health properties as well. Read what WebMD has to say about chocolate and raw coaca.

Possible Removal Of Lead From The Body A study Dr.Greger shared showed that garlic removed lead from chicken tissues. Less lead was absorbed when the source lead and garlic were eaten on the same day And the garlic removed even more lead a week after the ingestion of lead was stopped. You'll have to watch the video to get the details. Link

Dates, Blueberries, Raisins,  fresh Grapes all help to protect the tooth enamel. They might leave stains temporarily but as you rotate your foods and continue your ToothWash sessions you will notice the benefits. (Rotate as in eat a variety of foods, not physically rotate individual food items in a circle). Its natural/normal for teeth to take on the color of foods eaten temporarily. Do your research on these foods and decide which ones work for you.

Dentist opinion about foods and teeth. Some dentist say never eat tomato sauce including salsa, never eat popcorn dried fruit, vinegar plus more while there are other dentist who say your teeth and body benefit from tomatoes and tomato sauce, dried fruit, popcorn, citrus and our concern should be about not leaving the foods  on our teeth for a long time after we eat and not brushing very soon after acidic foods are eaten but to make sure and floss after popcorn, dried fruits etc.

Rotating/Oscillating Vibrating/Sonic Toothbrushes

There have been studies are said to show oscillating toothbrushes remove more plaque than manual than and sonic toothbrushes. And other studies that show sonic brushes remove more. However I think it's good yo try both and see what works best for you. You get thousands of strokes per minutes with a good oscillating toothbrushes alot more than you can get with manual toothbrush. And message the the gum line thoroughly. This is hard to do with a manual toothbrush. For people dealing with some types of gum disease oscillating toothbrushes are better than manual brushes as well, you get let the rotating bristles do the work for you.

Its good to know what different tools do. Food processors do different things that blenders don't do, sometimes people have both in their kitchen. I think it's good to have different types of tooth cleaning tools also.

Floss & Brush Picks

Floss: Flossing is very important, some folks like floss picks while others perfer string floss, and of course some folks use both. There's a bunch of options around. There's eco-floss and eco-floss picks that are climate friendly.

🦷🦷 There's more interesting information about the scientific research done on flossing in the next section with a video from a dentist on this topic and written onfo also.

Brush Picks: This is a helpful tip that was given by a customer in The Rainbow Grocery Collective store in San Franicisco who was at the same table having lunch that I sat at, she offered me one, it turned out to be very helpful, a big thank to her, I didn'tget her name. Brush toothpicks also known as  Disposable Interdental Brushes: these help clean between teeth the linked brand has no metal post. They are very helpful when you can't brush but want to remove food particles from in between your teeth.  Also encourage companies to make then out of biodegradable materials. These can be difficult to use when trying it for the first  time. Go slow and work your way into using them. Also for addressing sore spots in between teeth along the gum line with a toothbrush, floss and brush picks a little bit of pure lysine powder applied to the sore area soak and swish then rinse out, is a huge help to lessening soreness and helping healing. Lysine powder rinses are good for wound healing. Rinse only in this case don't swallow. This is a good brand you can get a bottle of 100 capsules and ooen a capsule use a little bit, put the capsules back together and save the rest of the capsule contents later, have a separate container to put in the capsule you've opened and are saving to use later.  Also this comes in powder form as well, if you decide you like using it you can buy in bulk later. Sulcus Brush / Proxy Brush Goes between teeth The Oral Care  battery powdered toothbrush a Walgreens, RiteAid, Walmartvand CVS brands contains two of these tiny brushes they're also called sulcus brushes, the one in the walgreens oral care kit doesn't have a metal post. Some have a metal post the bristles are attached to, so be careful not to damage your enamel by scraping against it with the metal kind. Link

And please help encourage Walgreens manufactures of oral care products to create a battery powered oscillating sulcus brush that has replacement heads that are small like this one. We need more choices and we need ones that have replacement heads easily accessible without having to buy the entire new brush every time you need to only replace the sulcus head.

Colgate 360 battery powered toothbrush: The pros: is has elongated bristles that are helpful to reach in between teeth. *Some people do put the 360 toothbrush heads on the Walgreens oral care battery powered toothbrush. *( I cannot say you shouldn't or should try putting the 360 brush on the oral care brush, experiment at your own risk). Cons: the 360 has tiny bristles and the brush doesn't have a very powerful oscillation but putting the 360 toothbrush head on the Walgreens toothbrush gives it a lot more oscillation power.

Manual toothbrushes with replaceable heads are good for adults children should be supervised with those. Fuchs and Terradent are  brands that have some replaceable head options. Terradent soft and Terradent medium Colgate Extra Clean Toothbrush, it has a mixture of regular bristles & silicone brush heads that help remove surface stains, they help polish the teeth very well. They're great to use after a extended toothwash session. Colgate Adult Medium Bristle Toothbrushes. Also the Boie toothbrush looks good because it has a all silcone type toothbrush head which are great for removing surface stains when combined with bristles, i had a manual brush with both years ago. This one with all silcone bristles is good for doing gentle gum massages and they're made with recyclable materials with replacement toothbrush heads, the handle is made of TPE. I have tried this one and it's good for gentle gum massage it hasreplacement heads and it does polish teeth well. But if you have stubborn surface stains it might require more intensity like you can get with use  the spinbrush with the combination of the  medium  bristle brush head and elongated soft bristles toothbrush head. But for those moments when you need a mellow gum massage they're good. I'm still learning about i just got one I've had it for a few days so I don't have a longterm use experience to share just yet.

Arm & Hammer Spinbrush battery power toothbrush:Sometimes called Truly Radiant Also Pro Deep Clean: whatever name its under these days,it's the one with elongated bristles, more on that below.

The pros: this brush has elongated bristles, the bristles are not super tiny, this brush is a very helpful tool to brush in between teeth.

🥦🥬🫐😊🥝🍲🥪🥙🥝🍠  it seems like they Fixed this con, the new replacement toothbrush heads i purchase seem to not oscillate in place, there are still some of the old ones around. But the majority of the new one I get don't have that issue ‐>: Cons:this brush will skip in oscillation and spin.  in it's places after being used for several sessions,  when you try to brush in between the rear molars for example: turning the brush so the is pointing towards your left should to get the left side of the spaces in between the spinbrush starts to skip when it touches your ski. Like other tools, people use different types of toothbrushes, they have different uses. Like some blender & food processors, they are similar but one is better at some things than the other that's why many folks have both. 🥦🥬🫐😊🥝🍲🥪🥙🥝🍠Now that this con is fixed. I do notice another issue with them, the medium head replacements will still spin in place and feel like it's  jumping tracks so to speak if you apply alot of pressure, so it's  not as smooth as it originally was in 2014 & 15 up to 2019. You can try to apply less pressure if it stops oscillating correctly, some times that helps. It doesn't skip as much as it was but it still does so on the medium replacement heads it still does it but the elongated ones don't do it at all. I hope this is fixed soon because the mediums toothbrush heads are equally as important as the spinbrush replacement heads with the elongated bristles.

Con: No small sizes with replaceable toothbrush heads.

Of course with them all be careful. They are easy to find, they are carried by Safeway, Amazon, Walgreens and many other stores. I think it's worth checking out especially for folks who want tools to get in between their teeth and massage their gums plus they are helpful for alot more. For some reason ordering the medium replacement heads is getting strange, they should be easy to get and there should be a affordable pack with the medium like the have for the soft elongated toothbrush heads with two complete brushes and four replacement heads. Wouldn't it be great to see a choice like that with medium toothbrush replacement heads? I hope something changes soon.

Oral B Oscillating toothbrush is also a good choice according to some people reviewsof the product, because it works, they have some inexpensive models. And they have a recycle program as well, whuch is a big plus. Their website states: "WORKING TOGETHER FOR A CLEANER, GREENER PLANET. Participating in the Recycle on Us program is free and easy. COLLECT:Gather all your used oral care waste, including spent toothbrushes, floss containers and toothpaste tubes and pack them into any size box. PRINT:When the box is full, seal it up and download a free shipping label from the website."

More companies should have this especially household battery manufacturing & seller companies, they also should make it free & easy recycling. Link to Oral B's website

Auto Toothbrush sounds interesting I haven't tried the auto brushes yet but I'm glad they're around for people who need something like this due to disability or injury. It's a great concept I'm not sure it will clean in between teeth  thoroughly. If it doesn't that would mean a person who uses this type needs to brush in between teeth with additional tools.

Update: Recently I found this: Efficacy of a U-Shaped Automatic Electric Toothbrush in Dental Plaque Removal: A Cross-Over Randomized Controlled Trial "The U brush /UAET that was tested in this study proved to be not effective in removing dental plaque. In particular, the UAET was not significantly different from no brushing, while plaque removal with the UAET was significantly lower than with a powered toothbrush and a habitual toothbrushing procedure. Therefore, its use cannot be recommended for regular oral hygiene at home." Link This is still a developing product, I'm sure it will improved, so that it will clean teeth better.

AutoBrush NEW Double-Sided Head | Dentist Review | Is It Any Better? 🧐 Dr. Nemeth says the "Auto Toothbrush" has improved. He says it might not be as thorough but it could be helpful. If that is true may these improvements have made it so someone could also use it as a tool to brush the surface areas and after that you can use your other brushes to do more thorough brushing in between the teeth. I'm interested it now that I've listen to this video about Dr. Nemeth testing this product before and after their improvements. Link

The TRUTH About Flossing Teeth (What You Aren't Being Told) This dentist has some interesting things to say. I don't  do everything various dentist on YouTube say but I do enjoy listening to a variety of people. Some of the suggestions are helpful, some of them I don't fit my circumstances, I think it's that way for many folks. But it's interesting to read and hear this about flossing. I'm interested in reading more of the research thats been done on dental flossing.

Tooth Washing Techniques

Cleaning Red and sore Gums

Concerns about gum recession do make us hesitant about how we clean our gums. Nature's Gate toothpaste had a interesting effect when used to massage and brush  my gums gentley. First I didn't notice much but later i noticed my gums turn even darker red then later they turn pink and clean. It cleaned my gums and removed most of the stains on the gums so the deeper painful areas could be seen better especially in between teeth and along the gum line near the tooth's edge.

Don't feel bad if you need to recline or lay down on your side to reach some of the spaces in between teeth. During a dental visit they lean you back in a chair to see things from that angle. A stainless steel compact mirror is helpful as well you can get them for a reasonable price online, they're good because you don't have worry about breaking any glass and they last a long time. Have you ever seen the drawings in some of the books about ancient spiritual initiations where the initiates have their arms crossed with something in each hand? Not that extended time doing gum massage cleanings a initiation but holding the compact mirror in one hand and the in toothbrush in the other hand reminds me of those drawings of the initiates in that position. Back to the gum washing and massage.

For painful area in between teeth you can aim a battery powered toothbrush directly in between teeth to start massaging the gum line and tooth's edges. Go slow and know it takes time. How much time? It's not a quick fix, it just takes the time it takes. It will hurt less the more it's washed. We often have food in our mouths longer than we have toothpaste, and when we chew food or drink beverages it gets in between teeth and they're in our mouths longer than toothpaste. Chewing gum to get the toothpaste and water solution mushed in between teeth thoroughly is helpful. Use a gum that's not sticky.

Also during ToothWash extended brushing time, a battery powered toothbrush head can become water logged. When that occurrs, power off the toothbrush, remove the toothbrush head, use a paper towel or reusable cloth and blow the moisture out of the head. Cover the bristle end and the holes in the back and point the other end into the paper towel or reusable fabric and blow forcefully a few times. Switch the brush head around and cover the other end with your mouth point the bristle end towards the paper towel and blow forcefully a few times. Shake it over the cloth to remove any remaining moisture dry off and set aside. Then shake out the brush that you mount the brush head onto, on the paper towel, wipe it dry then put it back together and your battery powered toothbrush is ready to use. When not in use try pointing the toothbrush downwards to help it drain.

Tooth Wash

Hold the toothpaste mixed with water in your mouth for a minimum of 10 minutes rinse out your mouth with warm water or room temperature water wet your toothbrush then start massaging the area you're working on. Use a compact mirror to see the area. There are stainless steel compact mirrors available, they're good because there's no reflection material to wear off so the stain steel ones last longer.

Gum and Tooth Washing Techniques Continued

When brushing in between teeth sometimes there's involuntary movement of your jaw. You can do a chewing motion and stop it while you hold a battery powered toothbrush with rotating bristles on the choosen area. Slightly chew motion not where your mouth is closing all the way where your teeth are touching. Basically it very slight movement of your jaw to do the chewing motion, moving the upper and lower teeth up and down. This will stop the involuntary movement when you've focused your brush on a specific area if any starts but don't press to hard with brush firm but gentle.

You can hold the toothbrush in place on surface stains on the surface of teeth and it will remove the stains better than quickly moving the brush around over the surface of the teeth. Hold it in place, the longer you hold it in place the more it brightens the tooth. Try doing that for a time you decide

and notice the difference. It won't remove all of them in one ToothWash session if there's a long time build up but keep doing it regularly and it will remove them.

2 Minutes And Questions About Soaking

Some people often have food and beverages in their mouths for longer than 2 minutes. Thoroughly getting it in between our teeth and in the gum line areas next to teeth. That makes it longer than toothpaste is in their mouths to clean their mouth, teeth and gums after uses them to eat and drink beverages. That's something that can be changed by holding toothpaste and water in the mouth for a while instead of rushing to get it out in 2 minutes. To let it get in between teeth and all around the gum line. This is very helpful.

Dental Discriminatory Remarks

"She didn't take care of her teeth in the past or she wouldn't need a implant" This is in the comments section of this video clip about a dentist talking to a woman about her experience with having a tooth  implant link

This is just one example of careless discriminatory comments about people seeking dental care, there are many including some from dental health care workers. When the truth is: even dental care workers have tooth problems, they're human beings it's part of being a human being. Some dental workers  have fillings, dentures, partials, implants, tooth extractions and more. Which is why some folks go into dental work they care about teeth and gums and want to learn more about how to help themselves and other people.

There needs to be more exposing of this and putting an end to it.

You cannot be sure why someone has a missing tooth or teeth unless you ask them. Some people do have missing teeth because injuries and a variety of other reasons. The famous case of Mr. Tiger Woods getting his tooth knocked out by a tv camera was in the news, everyone's reason isn't in the news. And they don't owe a non health care worker any explanations as to why, people  should be given thumbs up for seeking dental care

instead of going over possible reasons they have fillings or need tooth implants or decide on other types of replacements. And if they decide not to get a replacement it's their choice you can't know why they made that choice unless you ask.

Extended time toothbrushing is not a solution for all people, don't feel bad if it's not for you. Some folks try various soaks and teeth whitening kits, prescription liquid antibiotic drops, various prescription rinses and paste. Keep trying things don't give up find something that works for you.
